There’s been a lot of talk about blogging in my feed on Threads. Do it. Don’t do it. It’s too late. It’s never too early.

[Davis Carr | Astrology & Tarot (@meridiantarot) on ThreadsEvery time I see “you should start a blog” content on here, I think of @thefierywell.![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/77/0c/770c280c-8342-4367-8272-fd2bff5d02d3/content/images/icon/Pcnemah90K8.png)Threads![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/77/0c/770c280c-8342-4367-8272-fd2bff5d02d3/content/images/thumbnail/407643438_1089968015750317_1474051350216524588_n.jpg)](https://www.threads.net/@meridiantarot/post/C0wiZ9ZMzNS?xmt=AQGzYxqafdWBZVRHU0uJinGR1xchg1kQK4XDSvpp0m16GWA&ref=thefierywell.com)

There are so many opinions on blogs, I’d love to see a blog post about it (ahem.) But so far, I’ve only seen social media posts. This is why when I see the “*this* is the year for blogging…” I hold my breath.

I’ve been blogging on and off since 1996\. Blogging is work. Even when it’s for funsies. But especially if you’re blogging *for* business and using it as a marketing tool. So if *you* are considering blogging I’d like to offer my seasoned and unsolicited advice:

If you want to do it–do it.

It’s a creative outlet like no other. It’s a business marketing strategy that has worked since the internet became mainstream. When I can convince clients to blog and they do it… they *stand out* in their industry.

But like anything else, you must go into it with a plan. And a decision. Will you be blogging for you or [blogging for your business](https://www.thefierywell.com/moving-from-kit-formerly-convertkit-to-ghost-for-my-email-newsletter-and-blog/)? To work in the open and share your process? To sell products or ideas? To just have fun? The right answer is the right answer *for you.*

Just beginning? Then begin. Embrace the mess. Embrace the unknown. Start. Publish. Share. Repeat.

Seasoned, but starting over? Get organized. Plan. Prepare.

## A few blogging tips:

- [Own your domain.](https://namecheap.pxf.io/Z3MOK?ref=thefierywell.com) Build *your* brand/authority... not the blogging platform's. Owning your domain gives you the ultimate portability–you can move and keep your address!
- **Write for the human reading it. Not a search engine. Not an AI Bot.**
- Link to your “Blog” in your main navigation
- Always date your blog posts
- Make your excerpt, or description, shareable
- One category per post, lots of tags
- One keyword or keyphrase per post
- Put the main keyword for your post in your URL
- **Speak to *one* person. Share *one* idea. (Per post)**
- Add a call to action, such as your newsletter, at the end of every post
- [Be original. **AI is not for authoring**](https://www.thefierywell.com/some-thoughts-on-a-i/)**.**
- Do what you want. It’s your blog!
- Don't forget to make sure your [site complies with all the legal requirements](https://www.thefierywell.com/legal-pages-for-your-website-that-stay-up-to-date-as-the-laws-change-yes-please/)

## A few of my favorite tools for your blogging journey:

### [Squarespace](https://squarespace.syuh.net/4eax29?ref=thefierywell.com)

[Squarespace is great if you a very visual person and prefer a drag and drop experience when building a website](https://squarespace.syuh.net/c/1960356/557360/9084?ref=thefierywell.com). You can build as many pages or blogs as you want under one website and their templates are fairly straightforward and highly customizable. They have e-commerce, memberships, subscriptions, and email marketing all in one place, as well, once you start building more than a blog.

### [Ghost](https://ghost.io/?ref=thefierywell.com)

You're reading this [blog on a Ghost hosted website](https://ghost.org/?ref=thefierywell.com). It's a very writer focused platform and makes publishing a breeze. The sites are very clean, you don't have to mess with any code, and the writing experience is like a blend of Notion and Obsidian. You also have the option of sending your blog posts directly to your subscribers as an email newsletter.

### [Kit (formerly ConvertKit)](https://partners.kit.com/d9cc4dt444sk?ref=thefierywell.com)

While Kit is first and foremost an email marketing system, for those of you just starting out with blogging *and* emailing, it's a great place to start for the price: free. I'd treat it as [a great alternative to Substack](https://partners.kit.com/d9cc4dt444sk?ref=thefierywell.com) rather than a great place to build a traditional blog.

### [Notion](https://notion.so/?ref=thefierywell.com)

You may not think of [Notion as a blog](https://notion.so/?ref=thefierywell.com), but it's a great option if you are already into Notion or need something down and dirty. It also functions as a place to store your writing, whether it's published or not. Like [Kit, it's not meant for blogging](https://partners.kit.com/d9cc4dt444sk?ref=thefierywell.com), but when you are just starting out, you can start scrappy!

🚫

[I do not recommend Substack](https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2023/11/substack-extremism-nazi-white-supremacy-newsletters/676156/?ref=thefierywell.com). You are building **their* business and brand–not yours, it's a walled garden, and [they support Nazis](https://www.theguardian.com/media/2026/feb/07/revealed-how-substack-makes-money-from-hosting-nazi-newsletters?CMP=Share%5FiOSApp%5FOther&ref=karlbode.com).

### Planning Your Blog & Content:

You do not have to have a plan when blogging. You can write and hit publish whenever you want on whatever topic you want.

But if you are blogging for business or to eventually sell something... a plan doesn't hurt.

[Your Content Empire](https://thefierywell--yourcontentempire.thrivecart.com/bundle/?ref=thefierywell.com) is a very detailed system of planning, organizing, drafting, and writing your content from a business first perspective. Her formulas will help you make money from your content.

[The Fiery Well Yearly Content Planner](https://affiliate.notion.so/template-yearly-content-plan?ref=thefierywell.com) is a very, very, basic but well rated Notion template that lets you see everything you want to do at a glance.
