When "nothing" is getting done
The lie we all tell ourselves: we got nothing done today.
Since my thoughts on A.I. post was published and I went "viral" on threads for additional A.I. thoughts, I've done a massive amount of competitor analysis, researched and created a few quizzes, laid out the basic structure of my framework, outlined a dozen articles, drafted a few of them, and published... nothing.
In other words: I got nothing done.
Feel familiar?
If you ever ended your day with an "Ugh, I got nothing done" sentiment but you actually did a shit load of work... this is your sign to pause and step back and recognize what you're actually doing before you burn out.
You're working hard. You're cleaning your house. You're feeding yourself. You're feeding others. You're cleaning up after that mess. You're writing. You're researching. You're rewriting. You're selling. You're failing. You're fighting against AI slop. You're getting back up again. You're delivering services. You're doing the admin work. You're probably not drinking enough water.
You're exhausted from the effort, but you're not acknowledging what you're actually doing.
In the past, I'd have beaten myself up for having so much work done and yet have "absolutely nothing to show for it." Story of my life. But me today... says fuck that noise. I'm older, wiser, and more tired experienced. I recognize the work I'm putting in.
And I want you to do the same.
I can't tell you how many Witching Hours I've held where I pause the conversation to say "Hey, hold up, now. Recognize what you did. Acknowledge the effort." I've had clients cry in that moment because they were never conditioned to pause, reflect, celebrate. Just go, go, go.
Myself included.
So I raise two questions for you today:
- What would it have felt like to have been praised for your effort as a kid? As a young adult?
- What would it feel like to, on your own, pause and recognize the effort you are putting into what you're doing now?
